Among the oldest styles of conjure dolls, rope dolls gained popularity because they could easily be made using items that were typically found around the home. As the name suggests, they are primarily made from rope or twine along with other materials such as yarn, string, or ribbons for added texture and personality, then decorated with various bits and baubles.
These whimsical dollies love to keep a watchful eye over their homes and families, sweeping away negative energy while warding off enemies, unwanted visitors and other undesirable folk. Rope dolls work beautifully on their own or grouped together for added strength. They also make wonderful companions to JuJu Dolls.
Traditionally, the rope doll’s face is triangular in shape, with black-eyed peas for eyes and wooden skewers embellishing the lower half. However, many modern versions feature faces made from buttons, beads, stones, or shells—each one unique and filled with character.
